SCOTTISH CUP SEMI-FINAL 1st LEG
Published: 29/12/2009 at 16:51
Match Report - Scottish Cup Semi-final 1st Leg @ DIA 27/12/09

This wasn't a game for the purist with both sides failing to introduce any real flow into the game; in fact it was scrappier than Archie Mitchell's death scene in the Queen Vic. There was no knock out blow in this 1st leg of the Scottish Cup unlike Archie's clout to the head, which produced a final result for the evil Eastender.

Instead, these two will go head to head at Rosslyn Street this coming Sunday with the home side carrying a one goal advantage into the second 60 minute stint, before any knock out blow can be recorded.

The Flyers took an early lead when player coach Iain Robertson presented Andy Samuel with a belated Christmas present, which Andy duly accepted. However a couple of minutes later and the Stars were back level when some bonnie two touch play, (which Molly & Kevin from Corrie would have been proud) resulted in the Stars favourite sending a Christmas cracker past the hapless Daly.

The first period over and the fans made to the corner snack bar to warm themselves up on a freezing cold night, (spare a thought at this moment for yon Janine Butcher parading around Albert Square in her underwear!) with the cheesy chips doing a roaring trade. The Flyers fans of course preferring their customary stovies!

The second period saw both teams up their game a little with the Flyers taking the game to the Stars and playing higher up the ice than Simon Cowell's trouser line!

It certainly was the 'Feast of Stevens', with Lynch & King adding three more to the Flyers tally with replies from Gary Wishart & Iain Robertson ensuring that the Stars still had all to play for in the third period.

The final period saw the Stars have slightly more of the play and they pressed hard for the equaliser. Unfortunately missed chances and some poor passing coupled with tired legs ensured that there would be no further scoring from this Stars side.

With a couple of key players out for the Stars (which is a lot less than the number of bulbs missing on the Flyers scoreboard) Stars will be hoping to turn that 4-3 deficit around this weekend.

I hope you can all make the trip through to Kirkcaldy (and mind they pot-holes!)
