The MKM Dundee Stars took an early lead against the Guildford Flames, but ultimately fell 3-1 in a close matchup.

A back-and-forth opening period in Dundee saw action at both ends of the ice, as both goaltenders were put to the test early.

Guildford came close to getting on the scoresheet just after the halfway point of the period with multiple high-danger chances.

However, Emil Kruse responded with a number of phenomenal saves in close to keep the visitors at bay.

Johnny Curran scored the lone goal of the first period, beating Justin Fazio on a two-on-one rush at 14:34 to give the Stars a 1-0 lead.

Guildford levelled the score through Sam Talbot, who scored his first of the season at 30:31 with a shot in close past Kruse.

Jack Jacome gave the Flames their first lead of the night at 37:19, wristing a shot off the rush from the left circle past the Stars’ netminder.

Josh Nixon added a third at 49:31, capitalising on a turnover in the Stars’ zone and beating Kruse with a nifty move in close.

Despite Dundee generating chances late and pulling Kruse for the extra attacker, Guildford held on to secure the two points.
