The MKM Dundee Stars avenged their loss to Sheffield last night with a mass 6-5 overtime win on the road.

Jordon Southorn once again opened the scoring for Sheffield, redirecting a shot by Mikko Juusola past Emil Kruse at 04:38.

Dundee responded through Keanu Yamamoto at 07:37, slotting a rebound into the Steelers’ net after Eamon McAdam had made a save on Zach Taylor.

Stephen Harper blasted a one-timer from the right circle into the Stars’ net at 11:39 to restore the home side’s lead.

Spencer Naas levelled the score less than a minute later, pouncing on a rebound to make it 2-2 at 12:32.

A delay-of-game penalty against Ryan Tait gave Dundee the first powerplay of the game, and Zach Taylor converted, scoring his first as a Star with a powerful wrist shot at 17:06.

Otto Nieminen made it 4-2 late in the period, forcing a turnover in the offensive zone and firing the puck into a wide-open net at 18:49.

Sheffield made it a one-goal game early in the second period at 21:52, with Brett Ritchie finishing off a three-on-two rush to make it 4-3.

Yamamoto scored his second of the night at 27:58, sniping a shot past McAdam on the powerplay.

Brien Diffley responded less than 90 seconds later to once again make it a one-goal game, firing from the high slot past Kruse at 28:26.

Mitchell Heard levelled the score at 33:57, carrying the puck over the blue line and firing a shot from the right circle into the Stars’ net to make it 5-5.

Neither side could find a winner in a feisty third period, which saw Heard and Griffin Luce drop the gloves just after the midway point, sending the game to overtime.

Nieminen was the hero for the Stars, breaking into the Sheffield zone with speed and firing home his own rebound at 63:51.
