Welcome to the first in a new weekly series of articles, as we trawl through the Stars' history, looking at the characters involved in the Stars' journey and the clubs we’ve faced, from our early days in the BNL to where we are today, on the precipice of our 20th season.

There’s no better place to start than with the letter A…..

PLAYERS

Affleck, Andrew – Scottish Forward who iced on only one occasion for Stars, during our maiden season in 2001-02.

Anderson, Callum – Dundee Comets Goalie who helped out Stars a couple of times in 2018 as back up, without ever icing.

Andersson, Johan – Popular Swedish Forward who iced for Stars between 2017 and 2019. Johan had an ‘A’ on his jersey during his first campaign at Dundee Ice Arena and took up the ‘C’ in his second season. Icing on 96 occasions in both league and cup, Johan found the net 19 times for Stars and turned provider a further 33 times before leaving for Marseille in 2019.

Arthur, Craig – Kirkcaldy born Netty who guarded our goal 32 times over two seasons from 2007 until 2009 after joining from Fife Flyers, playing games in both the Northern League and SPL.  Craig had an average GAA of 3.300 and save rate of .910 in a Stars jersey.

THE OTHER STUFF

Aberdeen Lynx – Opponents in the Scottish National League, where they remain today, playing out of the Linx arena on Aberdeen’s beach.

Ayr Scottish Eagles – Stars first ever opponents, back in 2001. On August 24th of that year, we travelled to face the then Superleague team, losing 3-2 in what was reported as a pulsating game at the Centrum Arena Shawn Byram had opened the scoring for the Eagles in the second period, scoring the first ever goal in a Stars game in the process. Within 29 seconds, Patrick Lochi had equalised. Ayr then pushed on to lead 3-1 after two periods but a Teeder Wynne goal early in the third period ensured a grandstand finish. Just two days later, Stars would face Ayr again, and the now long-departed Eagles, would etch their name a little further into Stars history by becoming our first ever visitors to Dundee Ice Arena. Ed Courtney opened the scoring for the Eagles but in the end the teams had to settle for 5-5 tie, with Stars scoring through Teeder Wynne (2), Craig Nelson, Andy Finlay and Jan Mikel.

Appearances – There is only one man who can possibly hold the record for the most appearances in a Stars jersey, right? – John Dolan, of course. In total, John iced 431 times for Stars. Even last season he was still doing the business for Dundee Comets, helping himself to 51 points across all competitions.

Assists – Over the years Stars have been fortunate to have many players who have been able to rack up the numbers in terms of assists. Perhaps unsurprisingly the man with the most all time assists in a Stars jersey is John Dolan who amassed an impressive 216 helpers in his 431 games. Other players in the top three of all time assists are Tony Hand with a perhaps even more remarkable 137 assists achieved in just 80 games, and Teeder Wynne who posted up 100 assists in 80 games. As for most assists in a single season that accolade belongs to Tony Hand, who provided help with 100 goals for his team mates in the 2001/02 season, from 44 games in the BNL.

Australia – Stars have had one Australian player in our history and that man is Michael Gough, who iced for us a total of ten times during the 2005-6 campaign, putting up one goal and one assist.
