Welcome to this week’s instalment of the Dundee Stars A-Z series. Today, we bring you all of the players in Stars history, whose names begin with the letter ‘L’.

PLAYERS

Laing, Mark – Played in 26 games for Dundee during the 2005-2006 Scottish National League and Northern League campaigns.

Lakosil, Vlastomil – Was the Dundee goaltender for 45 games of the 2015-2016 season and the Czech national has since gone onto play for Hull Pirates of the English Premier League but most recently iced with MHK Dubnica in the Slovakian2 league.

Latto, Gordon – The Scottish forward was with the club for three seasons between 2007 and 2010 and collected 45 points across 30 games.

Latto, Richard – Defended the Stars net on 22 occasions of the 2005-2006 season, while also adding 34 points.

Latulippe, Jay – Scored 36 points in the 2010-2011 season, which was the club’s first ever Elite League campaign and the former Cardiff Devil and Sheffield Steeler has since retired.

Lawrence, Chris – The former Stars captain had a tough time with injuries during his only year in Dundee but the big Canadian did manage to contribute 16 points in 18 games of the 2017-2018 campaign.

 

 

Leclerc, Alex – Backstopped the Stars for 56 matches of the 2019-2020 season and of those 56 games, he helped the team to win 23, while also winning the EIHL Player of the Week award one time.

Lee, Patrick – Played in 13 games of the 2017-2018 season before the Canadian forward’s stay was brought to an early end after contributing two points.

Leggatt, Marc – Made one appearance for the Stars in the 2006-2007 Northern League.

Leinweber, Curtis – Canadian forward from the 2015-2016 campaign, who scored 18 goals and added 41 assists for 59 points. The former Edinburgh Capital has recently been playing with German third tier side, Starbulls Rosenheim.

Leslie, Nathan – Featured four times in the Stars inaugural season of 2001-2002 and scored three points.

Lèvesque, Gabriel – Was the team’s top scorer during the 2017-2018 season after scoring 67 points in 64 games. The Canadian center scored 15 goals and assisted 52 times, while also being awarded one Elite League Player of the Week award.

 

 

Leyden, Jordan – Iced twice for the Stars in 2008-2009 Northern League campaign and that was the Scot’s only time with the club before spending 10 seasons with Aberdeen Lynx.

Lidhammar, Mikael – Helped the 2016-2017 Stars reach the Semi-Finals of the playoffs, in what was his second season on Tayside. The Swedish winger made a total of 124 appearances for the club and racked up a total of 82 points but has gone on to ice with Elite League rivals, Guildford Flames and Glasgow Clan. However, he spent the 2020-2021 season in his homeland with Boden HF.

Liimatainen, Joonas – Iced in just 11 games of the 2014-2015 season before the Finnish defenseman departed.

Lindsay, Evan – Was brought in late to the 2004-2005 British National League season but he came in and made a big difference, helping the Stars to qualify for the playoffs and go on to win the post-season championship for the second time in history. Lindsay made 46 starts for Dundee and during the playoffs, he posted a save percentage of .918 and a goal against average of 2.89 per game.

Linton, Chris – Was a part of the Stars 2008-2009 Northern League squad for 16 games.

Lochi, Patric – Is a club legend and has spent six seasons with the team between 2001 and 2011. The Italian winger is renowned for his speed and puck-handling skills but his statistics also highlight just how good he was. In 221 games for the club, Lochi racked up an astounding 276 points. Patric is also the club’s second highest all-time points and goal scorer.

 

 

Lomanno, Luciano – Appeared on 17 occasions for the Stars in the maiden Elite League season and during his brief time in Scotland, the Canadian defenseman put up four points.

Lundvald, Lukas – Spent two seasons with the club from 2017 to 2019 and the Danish winger was a fan favourite for his fast and physical play. Lundvald skated in 91 games for the Stars, scoring 32 times and assisting on 42 more goals for a total of 74 points.

Lust, Shane – Retired in 2016 but was a big part of the Stars offence in 2014-2015, with the Canadian forward adding 36 points in 49 games.

 

THE OTHER STUFF

The Dundee Stars have had a total of five players that hail from countries beginning with the letter ‘L’.

The two nations are Latvia and Lithuania and the only player to ever where a Stars jersey and be born in Lithuania was Dainius Bauba (2002-2003). The winger spent just one year with club during the BNL era but totalled 55 points in 45 games.

Whereas, the four Latvian-born players to ice with the Stars have all played for the club during the Elite League period. There were three forwards: Janis Ozlins (2012-2013), Marcis Zembergs (2013-2014) and Egils Kalns (2019-2020) and the fourth was a defender; Martins Porejs (2015-2016).
