Head Coach – Dundee Stars

Reporting to: Group Director of Hockey Operations
Dundee Stars Ice Hockey Club represents Dundee and the North East of Scotland in the UK’s Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL), competing against top teams including the Belfast Giants, Cardiff Devils, Coventry Blaze, Fife Flyers, Glasgow Clan, Guildford Flames, Manchester Storm, Nottingham Panthers and Sheffield Steelers.
With a legacy spanning 25 seasons, the Dundee Stars have become a cornerstone of British ice hockey. The club is committed to excellence on and off the ice, promoting sportsmanship while inspiring the local community through professional competition at the highest level in the UK.
The Vision
The Dundee Stars are seeking a passionate, development-focused Head Coach to lead our team on and off the ice.
As the Head Coach, you will be the driving force behind player recruitment, supported by the Head of Hockey Operations. We are looking for someone who is process focused, hungry to win, committed to development, and ready to bring a fresh perspective to Dundee.
Core Responsibilities

- Primary Recruitment: Take the lead on scouting, contacting, and signing a competitive roster. You will leverage your own network to find players who fit a “hungry and engaging” mold, with strategic support and final vetting from the Head of Hockey Operations.

Player Development: Development is the heartbeat of this program. We want a coach who is a teacher at heart, capable of taking “raw” talent and refining it into Elite League excellence. You will be expected to implement elite development practices that meet the standard.

Culture: You are responsible for building a “hungry” locker room. We expect a high-energy, professional environment where accountability is standard and growth is non-negotiable. You will lead a culture where players are pushed to their limits but feel supported in their pursuit of the next level.

Community & Brand: The Dundee Stars are a community-driven club. As the Head Coach, you are the primary face of the team. You must be engaging and charismatic, building strong authentic connections with our passionate “Stars Family” fan base, our sponsors, and the media. You don’t just coach the team; you represent the city.
What We Are Looking For
- Hungry: We want a coach with a point to prove. Whether you are a top-tier assistant ready for your first Head Coach role or an experienced leader looking to innovate in a new league, your ambition must be evident.
- Teacher & Developer: A proven ability to improve players both on and off the ice.
- Recruiting Network: A deep, active network of contacts across North America (NCAA/Pro), Europe, and the UK.
- Strong Communicator: Ability to clearly articulate your vision along with vulnerability to the front office and inspire a diverse group of international athletes.
Requirements
- Proven Pedigree: Coaching experience at the Professional, Major Junior, or Collegiate level.
- Recruitment: A proven track record in player identification and successful recruitment. You should have an active network across North America, Europe, and the UK.
- Partnership: You must possess the ability to work collaboratively with your Assistant Coach and the Head of Hockey Operations. You will lead the recruitment search with full support to ensure every player fits the Stars’ mold.
