Last night saw the Stars pick up their first win of their 2026/27 campaign, coming back from a 1-3 deficit to knock off the Glasgow Clan 5-3 on home ice.
Rasmus Nousiainen scored a hat trick for the Stars, including the eventual game-winning goal, Matt DeBoer scored his first professional goal and captain Travis Ewanyk also found the back of the net.
“Our effort was fantastic in the third,” began head coach Scott Dutertre. “We worked really hard but at times we complicated things and made it difficult on ourselves. I thought our week of practice accomplished a lot, and all I asked the guys to do in the third period was to simplify things. If we do what we’re supposed to, we’ll have success, and the guys played absolutely fantastic in the third.”
The Fife Flyers have picked up five out of the available ten points throughout their 2026/27 Challenge Cup campaign so far, including wins over Dundee and Glasgow.
Last night, the Flyers travelled to the O2 Arena Belfast for a match with the Belfast Giants, where they came up short 5-2 to the Northern Irish side.
The last meeting between the Stars and Flyers came on opening weekend, with the Kirkcaldy side skating away with a 4-1 victory in Dundee. Xander Lamppa, Victor Bjorkung, Zachary Power and Garet Hunt all scored for Fife, while Dominik Groh made 19 stops en route to a road win.
Michael Drábek and Lamppa lead the Flyers in scoring with five points in five games, followed by Joseph Pierce and Bjorkung on four.
“We’ve seen them a couple of times now, they’re a good, hard-working hockey team and we need to reciprocate and do the same thing going back,” concluded Dutertre. “The first time we played them we let off the gas a little bit, then the other time it came down to some mental mistakes. We need to be sharp for sixty minutes with the way our group is.”
