Dundee controlled the majority of the opening period, outshooting the Devils 14:9 and generating a number of high-danger chances in close that put Ben Bowns to the test.

Cardiff came close to opening the scoring, with the puck threatening to cross the goal line on several occasions, but the Stars reacted quickly to clear the danger and keep the score level at 0-0 heading into the first intermission.

Another back-and-forth period saw the Stars and Devils trade chances, with both goaltenders making a number of tough saves to keep the score level.

Carl Stankowski made his best save of the night just after the halfway point, denying the Devils’ leading goalscorer, Josh MacDonald, on a breakaway with a big pad stop.

Cardiff scored the only goal of the second period at 33:45, with Nick Welsh picking up a pass from Riley Brandt before firing the puck past Stankowski to break the deadlock and make it 1-0.

A hooking call on Travis Ewanyk late in the third period gave the Devils their first powerplay of the night, which Josh MacDonald converted on almost immediately at 54:39 with a one-timer from the right circle to make it 2-0.

The Stars pushed hard to get on the board, pulling Stankowski for an extra attacker in search of a goal. However, Kohen Olischefski fired the puck into the empty net at 58:54 to secure the two points for the Devils.
