GUILDFORD FLAMES 5 TRADE-MART DUNDEE STARS 0
The Trade-Mart Dundee Stars suffered a heavy defeat in Surrey on Saturday night as they went down 5-0 to Guildford Flames and allowed four goals in the first 14 minutes.

The Stars had a full line-up available and Canadian forward, Alex Robert would be a healthy scratch as Slovakian goaltender, Richard Sabol would be started in goal.
Just three minutes into the game, the Flames got ahead as Ethan Strang finished off Daniel Catenacci’s cross-goal pass after Dundee failed to clear their lines and then in the eighth minute, Matt Alvaro would convert on a breakaway.
The Guildford forward slipped in behind the Tayside team’s defence and as he skated in on goal, he picked his spot and shot high past Sabol.
Catenacci then added his name to the scoresheet on 10 minutes, as he and Strang swapped places with Catenacci finishing off his teammates pass to the back post.
Marc LeFebvre then called a timeout to settle down his side as three sloppy mistakes had cost them three goals and left them a mountain to climb but just four minutes later, the Flames made it 4-0.
Guildford’s Jack Jacome had the freedom to go wherever he wanted in Dundee’s end and as he cut back towards goal from the right side, he shot the puck off of Sabol and followed up his own rebound, slotting it in as it dropped.
Sabol was then replaced by Jarrett Fiske in the Dundee net and the first period would end 4-0 but with the Stars outshooting their opponents 9-7 and in the second period, Dundee would finally get close to breaking down the Flames but Jake Kupsky would deny all 11 shots he faced in the middle session.
Meanwhile, Paul Dixon’s side added a fifth goal on 29 minutes as Alvaro fired home Jacome’s pass from point blank distance but that would be the end of the scoring on the night.
However, Philippe Sanche, Craig Garrigan and Zach Tsekos would all have chances to get Dundee off the mark but Kupsky could not be beat.
In the third period, the Stars would continue to get more pucks on net than their opponents, with the match total being 31-27 in Dundee’s favour but a scoreless last stanza left the final score at 5-0 on a night Dundee will want to quickly put behind them.
The only positive to come from Saturday night was that Manchester Storm and Glasgow Clan had both been defeated in their first games of the weekend, leaving the Stars exactly in the same position heading into Sunday.
Although, Dundee’s next game is not for another week as they host the Clan next Saturday before then travelling south to take on Coventry Blaze on Sunday.
