TRADE-MART DUNDEE STARS 6 GLASGOW CLAN 2

The Trade-Mart Dundee Stars made it a Burns Night to remember as they came from 2-0 down and scored six unanswered goals to defeat Glasgow Clan on Saturday night.

The Stars lost Jake Elmer and Xavier Pouliot to injury ahead of the match but that meant Canadian forward, Alex Robert would come back into the fold and it would not be the start Dundee wanted as the visitors would skate into an early lead.

On four minutes, Felix Pare turned home the rebound from Nick Prkusic’s effort which had initially been stopped by Dundee keeper, Richard Sabol, but then dropped perfectly for the Clan player to open the scoring.

The Stars then made a push for a quick equaliser but their former goaltender, Lucas Brine would shut the door to keep Glasgow in front and did well to deny all 13 shots he faced in the opening period.

The Taysiders even had two powerplay chances in the first session but were left frustrated after the second penalty for too-many men was called whilst Spencer Naas was in behind the Clan’s defence with a route to goal.

In the second period, Glasgow would double their lead after 27 minutes when Deven Sideroff stripped the puck from the Dundee defence on the Clan blue line and broke away down the ice, he then calmly picked his spot past Sabol and flung the puck into the roof of Sabol’s net.

However, Corey Neilson’s side then took a penalty two minutes later that would begin their demise as Keaton Jameson boarded Dundee’s Kris Inglis and a few of his teammates came to his defence, sparking the crowd.

As the Clan were killing off that penalty, Tyson McLellan then elbowed Stars forward, Philippe Sanche off the play and Matt Berry’s protests resulted in him receiving a total of 12 minutes of misconduct penalties, putting the home team on a pro-longed five-on-three advantage.

Just as Jameson’s penalty was about to expire, Zach Tsekos poked home a loose puck from the edge of the crease to make it 2-1, after 30 minutes but the rest of the penalties against the Braehead club would go unpunished.

However, in the final minute of the second period, a delayed penalty against Glasgow’s Chris Martenet for slashing was about to be called when Tsekos scored again to draw Dundee level, as he fired high past Brine from point blank range.

Although, the second period would not end at 2-2 and just 13 seconds after the restart, the Stars took the lead through Sanche after Brett Gravelle dispossessed the Clan behind the goal and Keanu Yamamoto would feed a pass to the back post for Sanche to tap in.

In the third period, the Clan could not control their discipline that had already cost them their 2-0 lead and took two more penalties in just 96 seconds, which then allowed the Stars to net a fourth and their second powerplay goal of the night.

Brendan Harms worked the puck down low and fed a pass across goal to Spencer Naas and all he had to do was shoot past Brine, who was already down and beat, inside 43 minutes.

Five minutes later, Naas would bag his brace with another powerplay goal as he batted the puck between the legs of Brine to make it 5-2, with former Star Chris McKay serving two minutes for an elbowing foul.

One minute later, Glasgow’s first goal scorer, Pare was sent to the dressing room after he accumulated 12 minutes of penalties for roughing and abuse of an official, but there was only 11 minutes left to play and he had to be restrained by three officials as they escorted him off the ice.

Yamamoto would add his name to the scoresheet in the 53rd minute as he fired low past Brine at his near post and that wrapped up the game and two points for Dundee, which could prove vital for Marc LeFebvre’s men as they move level on points with Glasgow.

The Stars now have a short turnaround before heading south tomorrow to face Coventry Blaze, with the chance to move above the Clan but they will have four games in hand over Dundee.
