The Kitmart Dundee Stars have signed American forward, Alex Schoenborn for the remainder of the 2019/20 season.

The 24-year-old joins from Orlando Solar Bears last season where he had a return of 10 goals and 16 assists from 47 matches, with 85 penalty minutes.

In the playoffs, the six-foot-one, 201- pound forward assisted twice in eight post-season appearances.

Schoenborn was a 2014 third round draft pick (#72 overall) by the San Jose Sharks and has played with their American Hockey League affiliate team, San Jose Barracuda.

The right winger will join-up with the rest of the squad next week and will be available to play in next weekend’s double-header with Nottingham Panthers.

In the 2017-18 season the Minot, North Dakota native split his time with Allen Americans in the East Coast Hockey League and the Barracuda.

Alex has played the last three seasons with both Allen and San Jose after being drafted from the Portland Winterhawks in the Western Hockey League.

He also played for the USA Under 17’s team in 2011-12 at the U17’s Five Nations Tournament and helped them earn the gold medal with three assists in five games.

When he signed a standard entry-level contract with the San Jose Sharks back in 2016, Sharks General Manager, Doug Wilson said: “Alex plays the game with a physical edge that helps keep his opponents honest”

“His combination of size and skill makes him a difficult player to play against and Portland Head Coach Jamie Kompon has helped him raise his all-around game. We look forward to him joining our organization.”

During his time in the AHL, Schoenborn netted twice and assisted on four goals in 35 appearances and his totals in the ECHL are; 18 goals plus 26 assists from 97 matches.

Also, in 108 WHL games, he netted 61 times and set-up 67 more goals.
