The Kitmart Dundee Stars are excited to announce Dundee Bairns as their official charity partner for the next two seasons.

Dundee Bairns are a children’s charity, supporting community projects that are in areas of high multiple deprivation to target the most vulnerable children in Dundee.

Their primary cause is to challenge food inequality for children and to provide nutritious meals, as well as other basic needs, thus reducing pressure on parents, to provide and helping to boost community cohesion.

Dundee Bairns pride themselves on being agile, responsive and adaptable to the provision of basic needs for children and families in Dundee.

Omar Pacha GM and Head Coach of the Kitmart Dundee Stars announced: “We are delighted that Dundee Bairns will become the charity partner for the Stars for the next two seasons.”

Michael Ward, Commercial and Community Manager for the Kitmart Dundee Stars commented: “For many years now, the Stars have teamed up annually with a charity to host a charity game at Dundee Ice Arena, in the hope that we can raise vital funds for their organisation and highlight the work that these fantastic charities do.

“This year we felt, as a family and an organisation, that we wanted to work with a local charity this time around, with the charities focus firmly on tackling poverty in and around Dundee.

“Dundee Bairns is a fantastic charity, I have been lucky enough to see the amazing work they have been undertaking in Dundee, having been privileged to become a volunteer during the pandemic.

“I have seen the massive progress they have achieved in that short time and throughout a very challenging year or so.”

He continued: “This coming season and next, we will be delighted to host a charity match in the name of Dundee Bairns.

“During those games we will wear a custom designed Dundee Bairns themed jersey, which will be auctioned off during the game to our fans. We plan to have face painters, bucket collections and lots more on the night too.

“We also hope to encourage our fans to do sponsored walks, such as the Kiltwalk, for the benefit of Dundee Bairns and possibly host other fundraising events throughout the next two seasons too, such as a Charity Assault Course Day.”

David Dorward, Dundee Bairns Chief Executive commented: “Dundee Bairns is a local charity set up to support local families in need, and we are absolutely delighted that Dundee Stars have selected us as their nominated charity.

“Dundee Stars have always had a very strong commitment to the local community and our partnership with them is the latest example of their community focus.”

Genna Millar, Dundee Bairns Co-ordinator commented: “Dundee Bairns is extremely grateful for the generous support offered by Dundee Stars.

“This is such a meaningful partnership for us as a local charity, helping local children and we look forward to a brilliant local partnership, and sharing the wonderful community ethos that the Dundee Stars team brings to our city.”

Dundee Bairns are currently recruiting new volunteers to deliver food provisions throughout the school summer holidays and are also on the lookout for other volunteers for admin roles, graphic design, social media/website and any other skill set, that will enrich the work they do now and hope to achieve in the future.
