A strong forecheck by the Stars forced a turnover in the Devils’ zone, with the puck falling to Jonathan McBean who made no mistake and fired a shot from the high slot past Christian Stoever at 07:09.

Cardiff responded through Kristoff Kontos at 16:33, poking home a rebound after Jarrett Fiske stopped a shot from Brett Perlini.

Cole Sanford gave the Devils their first lead of the night early in the second period, pouncing on a rebound at 21:17.

Gleason Fournier made it 3-1 at 25:59, carrying the puck coast-to-coast and snapping a shot from the high slot past Fiske.

A pass from behind the net by Ryan Barrow found the stick of Brett Ferguson, whose one-timer in close beat Fiske at 26:49.

An elbowing penalty against Tyson Helgesen gave the Stars their first powerplay of the night, which Drydn Dow converted on at 34:55 with a slapshot from the point past Stoever.

Despite heavy pressure from the Stars in the third period, including a powerplay opportunity, the Devils held on, with Josh MacDonald scoring an empty-net goal late to secure two points for Cardiff.
