The MKM Dundee Stars continue their playoff push this weekend, first hosting the Coventry Blaze on Saturday before travelling to Kirkcaldy on Sunday to face the Fife Flyers.

The Stars travelled to Coventry last Friday, where they came back from 3-0 down to secure a massive 5-4 overtime victory over the Blaze.

Justin Bean scored the game-winning goal, while Bradley Schoonbaert, Matt Boudens, Kameron Kielly and Otto Nieminen also found the back of the net.

For the Blaze, former Star Elijiah Barriga recorded two points, as did captain Kim Tallberg, while Mack Stewart, William Boysen and Jere Vertanen also got on the scoresheet.

“We had a bit of a slow start, but then we started to chip away and play with a bit more grit,” said head coach Marc LeFebvre. “It was a gutsy road performance, and two points are two points.”

Coventry bounced back the following night, knocking off the Guildford Flames 3-2 in overtime. The Blaze currently sit eighth in the EIHL standings, holding the final playoff spot and sitting nine points clear of the Stars in ninth.

Dundee and Fife most recently met on Hogmanay in Kirkcaldy, where the Stars earned a 5-4 shootout win after the Flyers had claimed a 6-3 victory in Dundee the night before.

Across those two encounters, Drydn Dow recorded four points, including the shootout winner in Fife, while Kameron Kielly and Keanu Yamamoto added three apiece.

For the Flyers, former NHLer David Booth scored four goals, including a hat trick in Dundee, while Johan Porsberger and Anton Karlsson both recorded four points.

Since then, Fife have put together a number of strong performances, including a victory over the Sheffield Steelers, and currently sit level with the Stars on 16 points.

“This is the biggest weekend of our season — we need four points no matter what,” concluded LeFebvre. “Saturday ends the first half of our season, so we’ve got to get going in the second half and we need to get points quickly.”
