The MKM Dundee Stars scored late against the Flyers, but were unable to close the gap and suffered a 5-1 loss on the road.

The opening frame of the first period saw chances on both ends of the ice, with Jarrett Fiske and Shane Owen being tested early. Vlastimil Dostálek opened the scoring for the Flyers at 04:44, firing a one-timer from the high slot past Fiske.

That lead was doubled less than two minutes later at 06:28 through Ian Scheid. The Flyers narrowly came out with the puck along the wall in the Stars’ zone, and the defenseman sent a backhand shot past Fiske to make it 2-0.

Dundee came close to getting on the scoreboard throughout, as they outshot Fife 10-7 and consistently applied heavy pressure. Despite this, the Stars couldn’t get past Shane Owen, and the score remained 2-0 going into the first intermission.

Jackson DeSouza took an interference penalty late in the first period, which gave the home side a man advantage to begin the second. However, a strong penalty kill by the Stars denied the Flyers any high-danger scoring opportunities as they returned to full strength with the score remaining 2-0.

A penalty against Hampus Olsson just after the halfway mark proved fatal, with Johan Porsberger making it 3-0 at 35:22. After Fiske made an initial save on a shot from the point, the puck fell to Porsberger at the circle who put it into the net.

Heading into the third period, Fife once again began on the powerplay as Jackson DeSouza sat for crosschecking. Another impressive penalty kill by Dundee negated the Flyers any scoring chances, and generated some much needed momentum going into the final 20 minutes. Spencer Naas got the Stars on the board at 47:27, collecting a rebound in front of the net and firing it past Owen for his third goal in just as many games to make it 3-1.

Dundee maintained strong pressure in the offensive zone, dominating the pace of play and coming close to a second goal on numerous occasions. Just as Jarrett Fiske was heading to the bench for an extra attacker, Johan Porsberger sent the puck from his own zone into the empty Stars net for his second of the game at 57:59. Keaton Jameson sealed the game for the Flyers at 58:33, sending a one-timer past Fiske to make the final score in Fife 5-1.

The Stars now turn their attention to tomorrow night, as they welcome the Flyers to Dundee for the second half of this Tayside Derby double-header. Faceoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. with tickets on sale NOW.
