As we continue our ‘Look Back’ series, today’s article will highlight one Star Player from the 2003-2004 season and the chosen player is – Jason Shmyr.

By Kris Smith

Jason Shmyr is another name that lives amongst the Dundee Stars legends after he stood out for two seasons at the Dundee Ice Arena.

The former Stars winger joined the club in 2003 from American Hockey League side, Manitoba Moose.

Then 28-years-old, Jason’s first season in Dundee was a huge success as he scored 22 goals and assisted on 29 more for 51 points.

The Fairview, Alberta native was quick to become a fan favourite with the Stars faithful and he also entertained the crowds with his fists as he went toe-to-toe with other enforcers around the British National League, picking up a total of 168 penalty minutes in 45 games.

In his second year with the club, Shmyr played in 63 matches and scored 11 goals, while also setting up 43 more.

The 6’4” left winger also continued his role as the team’s tough guy and he got involved in many more scraps.

Jason collected another 267 penalty minutes in the 2004-2005 season and that gave him a total of 435 minutes spent in the sin bin during 108 appearances for Dundee.
