To start off week six of our ‘Look Back’ series, we will be taking you back to the 2006-2007 campaign, which was the club’s second year of competing in the Scottish National League and in the Northern League.

The Stars played 40 league games that season, 18 in the SNL and 22 in the Northern and they achieved a second place finish in the SNL and came fourth in the Northern League.

Dundee’s biggest rivals, Fife Flyers again won both league titles and there were no changes to the teams competing in the Northern league.

However, the SNL gained a team as Kilmarnock Avalanche joined to make it a 10 team competition.

The Stars also still had their city rivalry, as the Dundee Tigers were in the SNL again and finished in seventh place, which is five spots and 19 points behind the Stars.

After both regular seasons had concluded, Dundee had a 27-1-11 (wins-ties-losses) record and had scored 224 goals and conceded 152 over the 40 league matches.

The Tayside club qualified for both post-season tournaments and in the SNL playoffs, their second place finish set them up for a Semi-Final tie with Solway Sharks but they were eliminated after losing 8-3.

Meanwhile, in the Northern League playoffs, the Stars qualified in fourth place and knocked out the Flyers in the first round.

They defeated the league winners, 7-4 in a single knockout match in Kirkcaldy before suffering a narrow 5-4 defeat to Whitey Warriors in the final.

In that season’s cup competitions, Dundee reached the final of the Scottish Cup after eliminating the Tigers 10-5 on aggregate in the Quarter-Finals and Solway 7-5 in the Semi-Finals.

However, the Flyers were hugely victorious in the final after winning by eight goals to one but the two would also meet again in the final of the Scottish Autumn Cup.

North Ayr Bruins were the first team to be knocked out by the Stars, after they were beaten 20-6 on aggregate in the Quarter-Finals and then they defeated Edinburgh Capitals SNL in the Semi-Finals, 4-3.

The final was a lot closer this time round but Fife again came out on top.

A 5-5 draw in the first leg meant it was anyone’s game in the second leg but the Kirkcaldy club claimed a 6-2 win in the second match.

That season’s top point scorer was Dundonian sniper, John Dolan with 97 points in both competitions (46 in the Northern League and 51 in the SNL) and he also had the most goals and assists on the team with 54 and 43 across both leagues.

Also, veteran defenceman, Scott Plews spent the most time in the penalty box that season  after accumulating 194 penalty minutes.

Roger Hunt continued to lead the team as Head Coach for a fourth straight year and it was his sixth with the club.

In his squad that season was goaltenders, Colin Downie, Mathew Michie and perhaps a familiar name from the Stars EIHL era, Gary Russell – the Glasgow Clan netminder.

Defending their net was, Jeff Marshall, Sam McCluskey and Willie Nicholson but they were supported by two tough enforcers, Scott Plews and Chris Conaboy.

Meanwhile the Stars attack was spear-headed by many sharp shooters and creative playmakers, which included:, Vince Connon, Kyle Doig, Liam Greig, Ali Haddanou, Patric Lochi, Ross McIntosh, David Smith and Dolan.

Next we will be bringing you a look back at one Star Player from the 2006-2007 season and that will be released Wednesday at 12pm!
