The Kitmart Dundee Stars ended their season on a high after beating Guildford Flames in a shootout.

On Sunday night, the Stars were in Guildford as they took on the Flames. Despite the Tayside team outshooting the home side 13-6, the first period was scoreless but things quickly changed in the second stanza.

The game’s first penalty came against Dundee’s Matt Bissonnette for hooking and 22 seconds into the powerplay, Kruise Reddick drove a shot past Sjögren to open the scoring in the 27th minute.

Ben Davies added Guildford’s second after 34 minutes but Stars rallied late in the middle session to tie the game. Matt Marquardt got them off the mark in the 36th minute before Brian Hart added Dundee’s second three minutes later.

The Surrey side re-took the lead early in the third period as Evan Janssen found a way past the Stars netminder after 42 minutes. However, Dundee were not done and pushed hard until the end. They were rewarded when Drydn Dow beat Chris Carrozzi in the 56th minute.

The teams could not be separated after 60 minutes, nor after five minutes of overtime. A shootout was required to find a winner, Calle Ackered, Brett Ferguson and Reddick all missed on the Flames first three shots. Although, after Oliver Paczkowski failed to score on Dundee’s first penalty, Marquardt and Craig Garrigan both capitalised on their chances.

Jamie Crooks then scored to give Guildford some hope of redemption and a Kris Inglis miss followed. However, Jordan Kelsall buried the next penalty to give Stars the win in their final game of the season.
