The 25-year-old center, who can also play on the wing, spent the past season playing against the Stars as he iced for Coventry Blaze last season and during his time in the West Midlands, he played in 65 matches, contributing 16 points (7G, 9A).
Born in Tallinn, the Estonian internationalist has played three seasons in Finland with Mestis club, Kiekko-Espoo, who he joined whilst rising though Finland’s junior development ranks.
During his time in the Finnish second tier, he played 131 matches and registered 55 points (17G, 38A), whilst also accumulating 287 penalty minutes.
The right-handed forward has also represented his country on 87 occasions at Under 18’s, Under 20’s and senior level, where he helped Estonia to a pair of Bronze Medals at the World Championships and was named the top player on his team at last year’s tournament.
Morten is also a two-time World Junior Championship Gold Medal winner, after taking the top prize at both Under 18’s and Under 20’s level, while he also won a Silver Medal at U18’s and won the Top Player award for Estonia twice as an U18.
LEFEBVRE ON JÜRGENS
After convincing Morten to move north of the border and join his roster, Stars Director of Hockey Operations and Head Coach, Marc LeFebvre, said: “Morten is a massive center that will bring us much needed depth to our forward group.
“He is big, physical and plays with the type of grit we are looking for.
“He knows the league and will bring that experience with him that will help us achieve our goals this season and I am looking forward to working with him this season.”
JÜRGENS ON MAKING THE JUMP TO TAYSIDE
Once he finalised his switch to the City of Discovery, Morten said: “I am really delighted to be joining Dundee and I am really excited about the opportunity I have to play for the Stars next season.
“I hope we can win some games and I can improve myself as a player, score some goals and bang some bodies.
“It all happened pretty fast, I talked with Marc and he seems to be a really nice guy and I liked how he explained his vision and what he wants from his players, as well as what kind of hockey he wants to play.
“So, I was really excited about the opportunity and when it came, I wanted to grab it and come to Dundee.”
In his 10-year-career so far, Morten has featured in 420 matches, recorded 90 goals, 108 assists and collected 704 penalty minutes, while also playing in 30 playoff games, where he tallied 11 points (6G. 5A) and 28 penalty minutes.
Morten is our 11th signing of the summer and joins Drydn Dow, Jonathan McBean, Jarrett Fiske, Jackson Desouza, Craig Moore, Craig Garrigan, Keanu Yamamoto, Dominick Jaglar, Kris Inglis and Griffin Luce on next season’s roster.
