A back-and-forth first period in Dundee saw shots split 14 to 12 in favour of the visitors. However, it was the Stars who struck first, scoring the lone goal of the opening frame through Bradley Schoonbaert.

After Jarrett Fiske was run into by Tyson Helgesen, the Devils defenceman was assessed a minor penalty for goaltender interference, giving the Stars the first powerplay of the night.

Strong puck movement saw Zach Taylor pick up the puck at the point, where he fired a shot that was redirected by Schoonbaert past Christian Stoever at 10:27.

Ryan Barrow equalised the score early in the second period, batting a bouncing puck past Jarrett Fiske at 20:57.

Bradley Schoonbaert scored his second of the game at 31:15, regaining the lead for the Stars as he redirected a shot from Justin Bean past Stoever.

Cardiff once again attempted to take a run at Fiske, prompting a feisty response from the Stars and resulting in a total of 12 penalty minutes being handed out during the sequence.

The Devils equalised once again at 35:22, this time through Cole Sanford, who fired home a rebound after Fiske had made an initial stop on Brandon Estes.

Kohen Olischefski gave the Devils their first lead of the night, redirecting Brandon Estes’ shot past Fiske at 51:53.

Dundee levelled the score at 54:40 through Kameron Kielly, sending the game to overtime with a slapshot from the slot past Stoever.

Cardiff pounced on a neutral zone turnover early into overtime, with Josh MacDonald redirecting the puck past Fiske to secure two crucial points for the Devils.
