Sheffield opened the scoring through Jordon Southorn, who fired a shot from the left circle above Emil Kruse at 07:23.
Johnny Curran responded at 14:06, capitalising on a giveaway in the Steelers’ zone and beating Eamon McAdam in close to make it 1-1.

A back-and-forth second period saw chances at both ends, but neither side could find the back of the net.
The Steelers failed to capitalise on an early powerplay opportunity, while the Stars’ best chance came from Johnny McBean, who was denied by McAdam on a breakaway.

Dundee thought they had taken their first lead of the night just after the midway point of the third period, with Curran appearing to score his second of the game at 51:27 on the powerplay. However, following a coach’s challenge, the play was ruled goaltender interference and the goal was overturned.
Dominic Cormier then made it 2-1 at 56:03, finding space in the high slot and wristing a shot past Kruse.
The Stars pushed back late, pulling Kruse for the extra attacker in search of an equaliser, but Robert Dowd fired into the empty net to seal a crucial two points for the Steelers.
