Last season, McBean iced in 54 games with the Stars, scoring a career-high seven goals while adding two assists.
A product of the Dundee Stars junior development programme, McBean made his senior debut during the 2022/23 season and has since gone on to make 221 appearances for the club, recording 43 points.
The 22-year-old has also previously iced with both the Dundee Comets and Solway Sharks, winning a quadruple with the latter during the 2021/22 campaign — including the NIHL 1 National Championship, North Division Championship, North Cup and North Division Playoff Championship.
Internationally, McBean has represented Great Britain at both Under-20 and senior level. He helped GB secure a silver medal at the U20 World Championships in 2023, before making his senior debut at the 2025 IIHF European Cup of Nations in Sosnowiec, Poland.
More recently, McBean helped Great Britain claim silver at the inaugural Ultimate Hockey 3×3 tournament in Austria last month.

After confirming his return, McBean said:
“It’s always exciting every summer — you look forward to the season, especially when you see the team start to come together.
“Obviously with the new ownership and new coach, things are going to be different, and I think change can be a good thing.”
“One thing Scott has said is that players can play their way into spots, which is always positive to hear because it puts it on the player and gives everyone a fair chance.
“He seems like a really good coach. He knows what he’s talking about, he cares a lot, and he wants the team to have that pack mentality — a really tight-knit group that plays for each other.”
“This season, I want to be part of a winning culture. Whether that’s me putting up points or whatever, as long as we’re winning, I’m happy.”
“I’m looking forward to seeing all the fans again, and hopefully this year is a lot better than last year.”
Head Coach Scott Dutertre added:
“Jonathan and I had a conversation about where I see him fitting into the lineup. You always go into a season with ideas on where certain players might start — maybe somebody has been really successful on the powerplay or in a particular role previously.
“For me, though, whoever is playing well that night is going to earn more opportunities. I told Jonathan that I possibly see him starting in the middle six, but if he’s having a good game, then he might move further up the lineup.”
McBean is our 2nd signing of the summer, joining Josh Nelson on next season’s roster.
