The 32-year-old right winger, who can also play at center, spent the past season icing in the Elite League with our Scottish rivals, Glasgow Clan and after arriving Clydeside in December, Berry would go on to score 22 points (9G, 13A) in 37 appearances.
Born in Canton, Michigan, the American has 81 games of AHL experience across 4 seasons as well as 278 games of ECHL experience over 7 seasons and he also played 130 NCAA games during his four-year collegiate career.
Matt, who stands at 5-foot and 10-inches tall, has iced for AHL sides; Norfolk Admirals, San Diego Gulls, and Grand Rapids Griffins, whilst also suiting up for Utah Grizzlies, Florida Everblades, Kalamazoo Wings, Toledo Walleye and Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL.
In the 2023-2024 season, Berry made his first move into European hockey as he joined HK 32 Liptovsky Mikulas in the Slovakian topflight, where he registered 38 points (17G, 21A) in 53 matches.
Matt, a Michigan State University Alumni, is also an ECHL Brabham Cup Champion as he was part of the Everblades team that were the regular season champions in 2017-2018, his second season with the Florida club and in his first campaign, he recorded a career high 80-point season.
LEFEBVRE ON BERRY
Once the deal to bring Matt from Braehead north to Tayside, Stars Director of Hockey Operations and Head Coach, Marc LeFebvre, said: “Matt is a veteran offensive player that will be a dynamic forward for us this season.
“He brings plenty of experience to our group and an offensive flair that he will get to showcase.
“He has almost a season under his belt in the league already, so that will help him hit the ground running come August and I am looking forward to working with him this season.”
BERRY ON MOVING FROM WEST TO EAST
After penning his deal to become a Star, Matt said: “I am happy to be joining the team, it seems like a great organisation and I talked to Marc a little bit last year before going to Glasgow but this year it just seemed like Dundee was the better opportunity, so I am looking forward to playing in front of the Stars fans.
“He likes the way I play the game and we are obviously pretty familiar with each other from how many times played against each other, so we had good conversations.
“Playing in the UK was a little bit different but once you get a little bit familiar and know what to expect coming in this year and how the game is played over here, I am hoping to have a better year this season.”
In his 18-year-career so far, Matt has featured in 735 matches, recorded 277 goals, 399 assists and collected 704 penalty minutes, while also playing in 75 playoff games, where he tallied 53 points (24G. 29A) and 95 penalty minutes.
Matt is our 13th signing of the summer and joins Drydn Dow, Jonathan McBean, Jarrett Fiske, Jackson Desouza, Craig Moore, Craig Garrigan, Keanu Yamamoto, Dominick Jaglar, Kris Inglis, Griffin Luce, Morten Jürgens and Nick Isaacson on next season’s roster.
