Ewanyk, 33, arrives in Dundee following an extensive professional career across North America and Europe, most recently icing with EHC Freiburg (DEL2) where he recorded 24 points in 51 games.
Originally selected 74th overall by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, the St. Albert, Alberta native captured the Ed Chynoweth Cup with the Edmonton Oil Kings during the 2011/12 WHL season before turning professional ahead of the 2013/14 campaign.
A veteran of 204 AHL games, Ewanyk has spent time with the Oklahoma City Barons, Binghamton Senators and Texas Stars, recording 29 points and 349 penalty minutes before making the move to Germany with Krefeld Pinguine (DEL) during the 2018/19 season.
Following two seasons in Krefeld, Ewanyk joined Eispiraten Crimmitschau (DEL2) for the 2020/21 season before returning to Germany’s top flight the following year with the Iserlohn Roosters (DEL).
He returned to the DEL2 ahead of the 2022/23 campaign with Bayreuth Tigers, where he led the league in penalty minutes with 82 in 39 games.
Ewanyk then spent the 2023/24 season with Hungarian side UTE (Erste Liga), scoring at nearly a point-per-game pace before returning to Germany with Starbulls Rosenheim (DEL2).
The veteran forward now arrives in Dundee, bringing a physical presence, strong leadership and over a decade of professional experience to the Stars lineup.

Speaking on the move to Dundee, Ewanyk said:
“I’m very excited to come to Dundee. Ever since I brought my career over to Europe, the EIHL has been a league I hoped I’d eventually get the chance to play in.
“Over the last few years, I think the league has continued to get stronger. When this opportunity came up, I did some research on Dundee and it seems like a really cool city with a passionate fanbase.”
“Scott and I had some really good conversations. He’s from Western Canada, where I’m from as well, so we connected a lot talking about players and coaches we both knew.
“From those conversations, I could tell he’s a very intelligent coach, someone who is really passionate about hockey, and somebody whose style I can identify with as a player.”
“I’m a veteran player now, and I’ve played a lot of years at high levels, so I want to come in and be a leader and somebody the team can count on at both ends of the ice.
“I can play on both the powerplay and penalty kill, and throughout my AHL career I played a lot of tough minutes and was hard to play against.
“As my game matured in Europe, I was relied on more offensively, and I’ve put up strong numbers in Germany over the past few seasons. I think I’m a player that can bring a lot of different attributes to the team, but first and foremost it starts with work ethic and character.”
Head Coach Scott Dutertre added:
“I think Travis is going to make a significant impact in our dressing room, on the ice, and throughout the league. He’s played in both the AHL and DEL, and after watching him last season I don’t think he’s missed a step.
“I like the speed of his game, he reads the ice well, the fact he can play in all situations and is really good in front of the net.
“For some of the younger players we’re bringing in, or those who maybe don’t have as much experience, I think Travis is going to be a really valuable mentor for them.”
Ewanyk is our 4th signing of the summer, joining Josh Nelson, Jonathan McBean and Ben Brown on next season’s roster.
