Scott Dutertre’s men travelled to Belfast last night for a Challenge Cup rematch with the Giants, but were unsuccessful as they fell 8-1 to the Northern Irish side.
Maxim Eliseev opened the scoring just seventeen seconds in, while Dominick Jaglar impressed with a .931 save percentage as he came in to relieve Vladislav Pestov midway through the game.
“It’s a tough day at the office, it was an adventure getting to Belfast in the first place with some ferry issues,” said Dutertre post-game. “At the same time, that’s one of the obstacles in this league, the travel is sometimes a little bit cumbersome, and we have to find a way to just come in and do our job.”
“We asked our guys to keep the game simple and get pucks to the net, both of those things just weren’t there.”
Kevin Moore’s men are coming off a 3-5 defeat to the Manchester Storm at home last night, and will be making their regular season debut tonight in Dundee.
The Blaze split their opening weekend, first being shut out 6-0 by the Sheffield Steelers on the road before knocking off the Cardiff Devils at home.
Griffin Ness and Jaxson Ezman have both scored at a point-per-game pace across Coventry’s opening three matches, while Sisu Heikkeri posted a .951 save percentage and made 39 saves in their only win so far.
“Every game is an important game. We can’t discriminate about our opposition. Wherever and whoever we play, we have a job to do,” Dutertre concluded.
Faceoff is scheduled for 5pm at the Dundee Ice Arena.
