Guildford got off to a quick start through Tyler Busch, who found himself alone in front of the Stars’ net and redirected a pass from the corner by Alexandre Lavoie past Carl Stankowski at 02:18.

Brett Neumann doubled the home side’s lead just under two minutes later at 04:04, pouncing on a rebound after Stankowski had made an initial save on a shot from the left circle by Dustyn McFaul.

Josh Waller added a third early in the second period, beating Stankowski with a shot from the rush above his blocker at 21:28.

Keaton Jameson got the Stars on the board shortly afterwards at 23:09. After Rasmus Nousiainen was held by Travis Brown, the Stars emerged on a three-on-one rush with a delayed penalty call. Nousiainen fed Jameson, who produced a nifty backhand finish from the high slot to beat Brad Arvanitis.

A strong forecheck in the Flames’ zone led to Jameson scoring his second of the night at 28:27. Zack Hoffman jumped into the play and managed to get the puck into the high slot. Flames captain Matt Alvaro was knocked off the puck by Ben Brown, allowing Jameson to pick it up in close and pull off a highlight-reel forehand-to-backhand move to cut the deficit to one.

“I thought we had some good offence, but we needed to manage our turnovers and breakdowns,” said Jameson. “In a lot of games we’ve been getting outshot and playing in our own zone. I thought today we were better and can build off that.”

Justin Ducharme restored Guildford’s two-goal cushion at 35:50, breaking into the Stars’ zone and firing a low shot past Stankowski.

A tripping call against Craig Moore gave the Flames the lone powerplay of the third period, which Cole Sanford converted at 46:14, firing a quick shot from the left circle into the Stars’ net.

Tensions flared late in the game, with Powell Connor dropping the gloves with Jonathan Racine.

Despite a late push, Dundee couldn’t find the back of the net again as the Flames claimed a 5-2 victory on home ice.
