As part of our 20th season celebrations, the Kitmart Dundee Stars are excited to bringing you the special opportunity to vote for who should be in our coveted all-time starting six line-up.

Today, we bring you a special version of Stats of the Stars that is aimed at helping you make your decision when voting begins on tomorrow.

This article will compare the statistics of the 16 centermen that we have selected to be in with a chance of winning the starting position at center ice in our all-time starting six.

However, you can still send in your own suggestions for other players we have not listed by using #StarsStartingSix.

Firstly, we begin by looking at how many games each center played for the club and this includes both regular season and playoff matches.

  2. Jordan Cownie – 182
  3. Brett Switzer – 123
  4. Brian Hart – 122
  5. Tony Hand – 106
  6. Johan Andersson – 96
  7. Martin Witta – 95
  8. Charles Corcoran – 68
  9. Gabriel Levesque & Riley Wetmore – 64
  10. Sami Ryhanen – 61
  11. Anthony Beauregard – 56
  12. Iain Robertson, Nakita Kashirsky & Nico Sacchetti – 55
  13. Ken Priestlay – 51

Stars icon Wishart is well clear at the top after his 7 years of service but there are a few single season stars that have made a lasting impression.

Next, we ranked the players by their total amount of points they collected with the Stars.

P

  1. Tony Hand – 247
  2. Gary Wishart – 177
  3. Martin Witta – 135
  4. Ken Priestlay – 108
  5. Sami Ryhanen – 101
  6. Brett Switzer – 94
  7. Jordan Cownie – 91
  8. Iain Robertson – 87
  9. Brian Hart – 86
  10. Nico Sacchetti – 81
  11. Gabriel Levesque – 67
  12. Nakita Kashirsky – 59
  13. Anthony Beauregard – 55
  14. Charles Corcoran – 54
  15. Riley Wetmore – 53
  16. Johan Andersson – 47

After his stellar start to leading the Stars to a British National League Championship and Playoff Title, Hand knocked up a massive tally of points across his two seasons in Dundee. However, two-time Stanley Cup Champion, Priestlay posted a lot of points during his brief stay.

The players were then ranked by how many goals each scored for the club.

  3. Nakita Kashirsky – 51
  4. Ken Priestlay – 48
  5. Brian Hart – 43
  6. Martin Witta &Nico Sacchetti – 38
  7. Brett Switzer – 37
  8. Sami Ryhanen – 31
  9. Jordan Cownie – 29
  10. Iain Robertson – 26
  11. Anthony Beauregard – 23
  12. Charles Corcoran – 16
  13. Gabriel Levesque & Riley Wetmore – 15
  14. Johan Andersson – 14

Kashirsky has done well to reach high up this table with just a single season under his belt and is well amongst the BNL players that dominated British Hockey in the club’s early years.

Next to be compared was each of the forward’s total number of assists in a Stars jersey.

A

  1. Tony Hand – 179

Sami Ryhanen (Picture by: Derek Black)
  2. Gary Wishart – 101
  3. Martin Witta – 97
  4. Sami Ryhanen – 70
  5. Jordan Cownie – 62
  6. Iain Robertson – 61
  7. Ken Priestlay – 60
  8. Brett Switzer – 57
  9. Gabriel Levesque – 52
  10. Brian Hart & Nico Sacchetti – 43
  11. Charles Corcoran & Riley Wetmore – 38
  12. Johan Andersson & Nakita Kashirsky – 33
  13. Anthony Beauregard – 32

Finnish superstar, Ryhanen is the most impressive player in this table, totalling 70 assists in only 61 games played but other key players such as Witta have also left a lasting impact.

Each player’s total number of penalty minutes was next to be ranked and while some people see more as better, you typically want to spend more time on the ice than in the box.

PIMS

  1. Gary Wishart – 173

Iain Robertson (Picture by: Derek Black)
  2. Tony Hand – 133
  3. Iain Robertson – 115
  4. Sami Ryhanen – 72
  5. Jordan Cownie – 71
  6. Nico Sacchetti & Riley Wetmore – 63
  7. Gabriel Levesque – 62
  8. Brian Hart – 60
  9. Nakita Kashirsky – 53
  10. Johan Andersson – 46
  11. Anthony Beauregard – 44
  12. Ken Priestlay – 38
  13. Brett Switzer – 26
  14. Martin Witta – 20
  15. Charles Corcoran – 10

Corcoran has shown his strong discipline whilst consistently scoring but there were also some high-scoring players who liked to get involved in the gritty parts of the game.

Finally, each player’s points per game totals were compared and this statistic is calculated by taking a player’s total points and dividing that by their total games played.

PPG

  1. Tony Hand – 2.33

Nico Sacchetti (Picture by: Derek Black)
  2. Ken Priestlay – 2.12
  3. Sami Ryhanen – 1.66
  4. Iain Robertson – 1.58
  5. Nico Sacchetti – 1.47
  6. Martin Witta – 1.42
  7. Nakita Kashirsky – 1.07
  8. Gabriel Levesque – 1.05
  9. Anthony Beauregard – 0.98
  10. Riley Wetmore – 0.83
  11. Brett Switzer – 0.76
  12. Brian Hart & Charles Corcoran – 0.70
  13. Gary Wishart – 0.61
  14. Jordan Cownie – 0.50
  15. Johan Andersson – 0.49

Two of the greatest BNL era players to ever wear a Stars shirt sit atop of this list with over two points per game played but other standouts are Ryhanen, Sacchetti and Kashirsky, who have done well to hit over a point per game in the tough Elite League era.
