Bengtsson, 31, returns to Dundee after spending the 2021/22 season with the Stars, where he finished second on the team in goals (28), assists (35) and points (62) across 52 regular-season games.
He also led the EIHL in playoff scoring with seven points in four games, helping Dundee reach the Playoff Weekend in Nottingham for just the second time in franchise history.
The Stockholm, Sweden native spent last season with EC Bad Nauheim (DEL2), scoring at nearly a point-per-game pace with 34 points in 37 appearances while finishing second on the team in goals with 16.
After departing Dundee, Bengtsson joined HC La Chaux-de-Fonds (Swiss League), where he enjoyed a prolific spell recording 41 points in just 24 regular-season games. He helped the club capture the Swiss League Championship before adding a further four points in six National League Qualification games against HC Ajoie.
He remained in Switzerland the following season after signing with HC Thurgau, once again proving to be a consistent offensive threat with 36 points in 36 regular-season games, before adding three points in four playoff appearances.
Ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, Bengtsson made the move to France with Rouen (Ligue Magnus), finishing third in team scoring with 43 points in 40 regular-season games while leading the club with 33 assists. He added a further seven points in seven playoff games and also featured in the Champions Hockey League, recording three points in six games against some of Europe’s top clubs.

After bringing Sebastian Bengtsson back to Dundee, Head Coach Scott Dutertre explained how the move came together:
“Part of it was the fanbase. Someone mentioned him, so I went back and looked at him. He had great numbers in Dundee, and then moved on to Switzerland, which is a fantastic calibre of hockey, where he put up very good numbers. He also had a strong year in DEL2 last season.
“I got in contact with his agent and that’s how we got the ball rolling. I had a really positive conversation with both him and his agent, and we were able to come to terms.
“He’s a puck magnet — the puck always seems to find him. He has that touch around the net, and when he’s not finishing, he’s creating for others so it’s nice to add that extra offence.
“With some of the veteran guys we’ve brought in like Ewanyk, Haden and Jameson, they’re going to help generate a lot of offence around him.”
Bengtsson is our 14th signing of the summer, joining Josh Nelson, Jonathan McBean, Ben Brown, Travis Ewanyk, Keaton Jameson, Craig Moore, Evan Brand, Tyson Laventure, Gary Haden and Matt DeBoer, Zack Hoffman, Brodi Stuart and Kris Inglis on next season’s roster.
