Welcome to this week’s instalment of the Dundee Stars A-Z series. Today, we bring you the very short list of players in Stars history, whose names begin with the letter ‘O’.

PLAYERS

O’Connor, Riley – Defended the Stars blueline in the 2019/2020 season and the British-born Canadian made a total of 41 appearances for the club, scoring 5 points (1G, 4A).

Ozolins, Janis – Joined the Stars from Hull Stingrays in the 2012/2013 campaign and the Latvian forward iced in 19 games, scoring 4 goals and assisting on a further 8. Janis has most recently been icing in the Latvian top tier with HK Mogo during the 2020/2021 season.

THE OTHER STUFF

The Dundee Stars have come across only one club beginning with the letter “O” and they were a Danish club who visited the DIA for a preseason double header in 2019.

ODENSE BULLDOGS faced the Stars on August 24 and 25, providing friendly opposition but it did not stop the Danes from putting up a good fight.

After a scoreless opening period in the first match, the BULLDOGS took the lead in the second before a third period blitz from the Stars turned things around.

Kevin Dufour brought Dundee level before Brett Stovin gave the Taysiders the lead but ODENSE would equalise again.

However, Stovin provided the go-ahead-goal once more and Colton Kroeker would seal the 4-2 win with a last minute-goal.

The second match was a different story as both sides went back and forth all game long.

Jagger Dirk fired home the first goal for Dundee and Stovin added a second before the BULLDOGS got off the mark.

Although, Dufour would give the Stars a 3-1 lead before the end of the first period but the Danish team cut into it one again, which meant Dufour had to score another to restore the two-goal cushion.

However, ODENSE had tied the score at 4-4 before the second period concluded and the visitors quickly pounced in the third to take the lead.

Despite Dufour completing his hat-trick to draw Dundee level, the Danes would score the winner with less than three minutes to play.

With both clubs having won a game each, a friendly shootout contest was held afterwards and Craig Gans was the only skater able to score, clinching the victory for the Stars.
