The Trade-Mart Dundee Stars are delighted to announce the signing of Canadian forward, Josh Brittain for the 2023-2024 Elite League campaign.

 

The 33-year-old, forward joins the club after spending the past season with fellow Elite League club, Cardiff Devils and through 67 games, he scored 32 points (12G, 20A), while also collecting a Continental Cup Bronze Medal.

Born in Milton, Ontario, the centerman will be playing his second straight season in the UK and brings a wealth of experience after playing over 100 games in the American Hockey League (AHL), more than 300 in the ECHL and over 200 across five European leagues.

Brittain, a third round (71st overall) selection by Anaheim Ducks in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, has played five of his last six seasons in Europe, whilst collecting a Slovakian Extraliga winners medal in his European debut season of 2017-2018 and also playing in the Champions Hockey League.

A season in Germany’s DEL 2 with Deggendorfer SC was then followed by a one-year return to North America for a reunion campaign with ECHL outfit, Allen Americans, after spending half a season with the Texas club during his seven-year stint in the North American professional leagues.

Josh then spent the COVID-19 halted season with Vimmerby HC in the Swedish third tier, HockeyEttan before signing on with Czech club, Orli Znojmo in the ICEHL, which led to his eventual move to Cardiff.

The 227lbs, center has also played for a range of AHL clubs including; Syracuse Crunch, Norfolk Admirals, Hershey Bears, Rockford IceHogs and Chicago Wolves but also nine ECHL clubs and three Ontario Hockey League teams, during his junior career.

In 2010, Brittain was signed to a three-year entry level contract by the NHL’s Anaheim Ducks and also won Gold with Canada Under 18’s at the 2008 World Junior Championships.

BRITTAIN ON SWAPPING DEVILS FOR DUNDEE

In his 19-year-career so far, Josh has featured in 957 matches, recorded 248 goals, 278 assists and collected 1363 penalty minutes, while also playing in 85 playoff games, where he tallied 26 points (14G, 12A) and 119 penalty minutes.

Brittain has also played with a long list of former Stars players including; John Mitchell, Brennan Turner, Vinny Scarsella, Doug Clarkson, Riley Wetmore, Brett Stovin, Gabriel Levesque, Matt White, Kevin Quick, Malcolm Gould, Alexandre Ranger, Alex Schoenborn, Kyle Gibbons, Curtis Leinweber, Cole Fraser and Jordan Southorn.

Josh is our 8th signing of the summer and joins Drydn Dow, Lucas Brine, Kris Inglis, Jonathan McBean, Craig Moore, Craig Garrigan and Johnny Walker on the roster for next season.
