The Trade-Mart Dundee Stars are delighted to announce that Dundonian forward, Jonathan McBean has signed a one-year contract extension and will continue to ice with the club for the 2024-2025 Elite League campaign.

Last season, McBean featured 62 times for the club and scored three times, as well as assisting on five more goals, in what was his first full season at the professional level.

Previously Jonnie had split his time between the Stars and the NIHL 1’s Solway Sharks, on a two-way deal in the 2022-2023 season and he made a combined 75 appearances for both clubs, as well making his Team GB debut with the Under 20’s at the World Junior Championships in Lithuania, where they brought home a silver medal.

The 20-year-old doubled his points production from the first season after putting up four last year and then eight points this past season.

McBean, a product of the Dundee Stars Junior system, has now made 88 EIHL appearances and continues to grow and develop every day.

LEFEBVRE ON MCBEAN

After signing McBean up for another season, Stars Director of Hockey Operations and Head Coach, Marc LeFebvre, said: “It was an easy decision.

“Jonnie is an up-and-coming player in the league and the plan for him down the road is to get him involved with the national team.

“He is only 20-years old but the skillset is there to play at this level, so next season we want to add him into the powerplay and penalty kill at times and move him up in the line-up, increasing his ice time.

“It is a big summer for him in terms of development to earn his ice time but he is going to get every opportunity this year coming into camp, playing with two imports and getting regular ice time.

“So, now the ball is in his court to take control of that because, like I said he will get every opportunity and he has to take advantage of that.”

MCBEAN ON STAYING WITH THE STARS

After agreeing to extend his time at the club, Jonathan said: “I am buzzing to be back.

“Being from Dundee it always makes it special returning to this club and getting to play in the rink I grew up playing in.

“Last season was really good for us, we could not have asked for a better group of boys to spend every day with.

“Obviously, it was a bit disappointing coming up a little short against Cardiff but I would rather look at the positives like making the playoffs by beating our biggest rivals on the last day of the season.”

He continued: “The talks with Marc went well and I think the vision for next year is pretty clear with the first two signings we have made and I am excited to be a part of that.

“I am looking forward to seeing you guys again this September, let’s have another good year together.”

In his career so far, Jonathan has featured in 253 matches, recorded 165 goals, 141 assists, and collected 74 penalty minutes, while also making 5 playoff appearance, scoring 3 goals and adding five assists.

Jonathan is our third signing of the summer and joins Drydn Dow and Ben O’Connor on the roster for this season.
