The MKM Dundee Stars are delighted to announce the signing of Canadian defenseman, Justin Bean for the 2025-2026 Elite League campaign.

The 29-year-old blueliner joins the club after spending the past season icing in ECHL with Maine Mariners, where he provided seven goals and 28 assists from the back end across 72 matches.

Born in Pickering, Ontario, Justin has played four seasons of pro hockey after graduating from York University and he made his pro debut in the ECHL with Cincinnati Cyclones, before being traded to Wichita Thunder.

Bean, who stands at 6-foot and 3-inches tall, also played for Tulsa Oilers in the ECHL before then making his first move to Europe as he joined Hungarian side, DVTK Jegesmedvek for the 2023-2024 campaign and he scored 18 points in 37 games.

The Canadian defender has over 180 games of ECHL experience and has contributed 69 points in that time, as well as playing 77 games in the USports League with York and there he accumulated 37 points for the Lions.

LEFEBVRE ON BEAN

After adding the final piece of his defensive core in Bean, Stars Director of Hockey Operations and Head Coach, Marc LeFebvre, said: “Justin is a big mobile two-way defenseman.

“He has some offensive upside and plays hard in his own end and does a lot of the little things that coaches like.

“He rounds out our defence with some much-needed size to what we have already added in Griffin Luce and Jackson Desouza.

“We need to be much harder to play against in our zone this season and with the additions of Justin and our new signings along with Drydn Dow, Kris Inglis and Craig Moorse, we certainly will be.”

BEAN ON MOVING TO DUNDEE

Once he finalised his switch to Tayside, Justin said: “I am extremely excited, I had originally planned to stay in North America for the upcoming season and when Marc reached out and this opportunity popped up, I was very excited about it.

“I am looking forward to getting started over in Dundee and Marc obviously had a lot of good things to say about the club, the city, the league and the level of competition.

“Every he said kind of checked all the boxes in terms of what I was looking for.

“I have wanted to get back overseas for a while now and when this opportunity came up, I had been interested in the Elite League for a while as well, so I had followed along but I also played college hockey with Xavier Pouliot and I touched base with him.

“I heard great things about Dundee and the fans from him and it was not a chance I could pass up, so I am looking forward to playing in front of the Dundee fans.”

In his 14-year-career so far, Justin has featured in 543 matches, recorded 62 goals, 191 assists and collected 374 penalty minutes, while also playing in 49 playoff games, where he tallied 23 points (5G, 18A) and 58 penalty minutes.
