Kyiv came out of the gate with speed, wasting no time in opening the scoring as Eduards Hugo Jansons deflected a shot past Dominick Jaglar at 01:36.
Maxim Eliseev fired a tight-angle shot which appeared to have missed the net, however, after video review, it was determined the puck had crossed the goal line and gone under the net, equalising the score at 06:50.
Dundee gained the first powerplay of the evening after Lukas Zukauskas was assessed a two-minute minor for tripping. Despite this, the Capitals pounced on a two-on-one rush and regained the lead with a shorthanded goal through Mykhailo Kovalchuk at 11:03.
The Stars once again levelled the score at 17:00, with Matt DeBoer redirecting a slapshot from the point by Duggie Lagrone past Maxim Duve.
Gary Haden gave Dundee their first lead of the night at 19:05, finishing off a behind-the-net pass from Maxim Eliseev to give the Stars a 3-2 lead heading into the second period.
Ben Brown, who scored twice against HK Liepāja, continued his hot streak as he finished off a tic-tac-toe play with Jonathan McBean to beat Romi Huunonen at 23:55.
Vladislav Pestov, who took over in relief of Dominick Jaglar, was sharp to keep the visitors off the scoresheet throughout the second period, with Dundee taking a 4-2 lead into the final frame.
Brodi Stuart added a fifth for the Stars just thirty-seven seconds into the third period, beating Huunonen in close with a quick shot over the Finnish netminder.
The Capitals pulled a goal back through Ville Rautiala at 49:13, firing a wrist shot from the left circle past Pestov.
Tensions began to rise immediately following the goal, with Duggie Lagrone and Kristians Zelts dropping the gloves in front of the Stars net.
Kyiv pushed hard to find an equaliser, pulling their goalie with two minutes remaining. Travis Ewanyk fired the puck from his own zone into the empty net, securing a massive 6-3 home win for the Stars.
