After last night’s 7-2 defeat by the Edinburgh Capitals in Dundee’s opening match of the Gardiner Conference. They now head to the Scottish capital for the final match of the Challenge Cup group stage phase.

Dundee sit second in the group and with a win on Sunday can top the group after their final fixture, they will be within a chance of qualifying for the next round as the final games for the other teams are to be played at a later date.

Malcolm Gould grabbed a pair of goals in last night’s Gardiner Conference game at the DIA, but Mike Cazzola (2), Dylan Anderson, Pavel Vorobyev, Sergei Banashkov, Julius Nyqvist and Marek Tvrdon were all on the scoresheet for the victors.

Pavel Shegalo denied the Stars 26 times, to earn his team the ‘W’, Travis Fullerton made 22 saves from 28 shots before being replaced by Craig Holland at the start of the third period.

Omar Pacha and the Stars will be looking for a complete turnaround after a disappointing performance. Meanwhile Anthony Mastrodicasa could potentially return to the line-up for tomorrow’s crucial cup game.

Former Capital Travis Fullerton, said: “Sunday’s match is just as important, it is our last match in the Challenge Cup phase, we started out very strong in our group, and we want to go as far as we can. I know first-hand how tough it is to win in Edinburgh, but we’re confident as a group we can grab the points.”

The home leg of the Challenge Cup fixture at the DIA between the two sides ended in a shootout, Marc-Oliver Mimar was the hero as Dundee claimed the points and a 4-3 win.

Talking ahead of the crucial game Mimar, added: “It was great to put that one in the back of the net but that would not happen if Fullerton did not stop their four guys first.

“It was down to great team work and obviously a great come back and I think we had a really good game last time at home, it was a big step for our team, we want to keep that streak alive!”

“We need to get points, this is two big games and we want two wins.”

Face-off is 6pm at Murrayfield Ice Rink.
