Stankowski, 26, joins the Stars following a successful collegiate career with the University of Calgary (USports), where he played alongside fellow new signing Sean Strange.
Selected 37th overall by the Seattle Thunderbirds in the 2015 WHL Prospects Draft, the Calgary, Alberta native went on to backstop the Thunderbirds to the 2017 WHL Championship, posting a 16-2-2 record across 20 playoff appearances with a .911 save percentage and a 2.50 goals-against average.
Following a successful junior career spent with the Thunderbirds, Calgary Hitmen, Penticton Vees and Winnipeg Ice, Stankowski returned home to begin his collegiate career with the University of Calgary ahead of the 2021/22 season.
Stankowski established himself as one of the top goaltenders in Canada West during his time with the Dinos. He was part of three University of Calgary goaltending tandems that captured the Adam Kryczka Memorial Trophy, awarded to the Canada West team with the lowest goals-against average, in 2022/23, 2023/24 and 2025/26.
He also helped Calgary capture the 2022/23 Canada West Championship, earned Canada West Second Team All-Star honours in 2025/26, and was named to the Canada West All-Rookie Team in his first collegiate season.
Away from the ice, Stankowski also excelled academically, earning Academic All-Canadian honours in four of his five seasons at the University of Calgary.

Speaking about reuniting with Head Coach Scott Dutertre, who coached him during his youth in Canada, Stankowski said:
“Scott coached me when I was playing spring hockey here in Canada for about two years. I was pretty young at the time, so it’s kind of a full-circle moment to be playing under him again. It’s pretty surreal, not many guys get to experience that, and it definitely makes the transition easier knowing your coach. I’m excited to work with Scott again.”
Describing his style of play in the net, he added:
“I have a high compete level, I love to win and battle. I’d say I’m pretty calm in the net, and I like to keep the puck close to me and control rebounds for my defencemen. Really slowing the game down is how I like to play and control the game.”
Finally, Stankowski shared a message for Stars fans:
“I’m just really excited to get over to Scotland and play in front of you guys. Hopefully we can win a lot of games and enjoy it together.”
Head Coach Scott Dutertre discussed what Stankowski will bring to the Dundee crease:
“This is what I like about our league, we don’t discriminate against goalie height. If you look in North America, if you’re not 6’2″, you won’t play.”
“Carl isn’t a real big guy, he’s around 5’10”, but he’s quick, composed, really good on his angles and is a very dynamic moving goaltender.”
Stankowski is our 19th signing of the summer, joining Josh Nelson, Jonathan McBean, Ben Brown, Travis Ewanyk, Keaton Jameson, Craig Moore, Evan Brand, Tyson Laventure, Gary Haden, Matt DeBoer, Zack Hoffman, Brodi Stuart, Kris Inglis, Sebastian Bengtsson, Vladislav Pestov, Sean Strange, Rasmus Nousiainen and Duggie Lagrone on next season’s roster.
