The MKM Dundee Stars are delighted to announce the signing of Canadian defenceman Sean Strange for the 2026/27 season.

Strange, 26, joins the Stars following a successful collegiate career with the University of Calgary (USports).

Originally selected 202ⁿᵈ overall by the Kamloops Blazers in the 2015 WHL Prospects Draft, the Saanich, British Columbia native went on to make 206 appearances for the club, playing alongside fellow new signing Brodi Stuart before committing to Calgary ahead of the 2021/22 season.

During his time with the Dinos, Strange recorded 68 points in 118 regular-season games. He appeared in a further 24 playoff appearances and helped Calgary capture the 2023 Canada West Championship.

A dependable presence on the Dinos blueline throughout his collegiate career, Strange finished with a +64 plus-minus rating — the highest by a Calgary skater since the statistic began being tracked in 2005.

He now heads to Dundee off the back of his most productive collegiate season, matching his career high with 23 points after recording four goals and 19 assists during the 2025/26 campaign.

After signing with the Stars, Strange shared his excitement about beginning his professional career in Dundee:

“I’m super excited. I’m wrapping up my school career and ready to turn pro. I think this is a really good opportunity for me, I’ve been set on heading to Europe for the past couple of years so I think this is going to be a great experience and a good next step to start my professional career.”

He also explained what stood out during his conversations with Head Coach Scott Dutertre:

“It wasn’t too long of a conversation, but I had some chats with Scott and he said a lot of good things. He’s going to be a first-year head coach, but I really liked what he had to say about how he wants to run his team and the improvements he wants to make. A lot of what he said aligns with my own beliefs, so I thought it would be a great fit.”

Finally, Strange had a message for the Stars fans:

“Dundee, I’m super excited to come over and be a Star. Let’s have a great season.”

Head Coach Scott Dutertre believes Strange has all the tools to make an immediate impact:

“I just want Sean to be a steady defenceman. He’s had a handful of games at the pro level now, so he knows what the game’s about.

“Coming over here, I want him to play like he belongs and not think of himself as a rookie. He’s already established himself, so I expect him to jump in and contribute to our lineup off the bat.”

Strange is our 16th signing of the summer, joining Josh Nelson, Jonathan McBean, Ben BrownTravis Ewanyk, Keaton Jameson, Craig Moore, Evan Brand, Tyson Laventure, Gary Haden and Matt DeBoer, Zack Hoffman, Brodi Stuart, Kris Inglis, Sebastian Bengtsson and Vladislav Pestov on next season’s roster.
